võitle Eesti võitle!

So as im sure many of you have figured out or know, i am back in the good ol' U.S. of A. and the land of free refills, chick-fil-a, root beer, and cheap prices. haha Estonia was great, it was one of the most amazing summers. spending 3 months in europe was something that i never knew would happen. for one thing i got the chance to live as a local and not just as a tourist carrying his camera around every second.  i really cant believe that i am back home. i hope that everyone back in estonia knows how much i enjoyed their company and how much im missing yall. our football fridays were something that i will continue to look forward to every time i go back. and geez i will never forget that most amazing log race ever. i was so blessed to spend my birthday with such wonderful people. seeing the many different sides of estonia was great; all the churches, castles, islands, lakes, cultures was also great. plus i got a chance to see how much more i like estonia compared to latvia and finland.

but now it's time to turn to a new chapter...the arrival of anna! (trumpets sound) yes she will be arriving, God willing this weekend. and i cant hardly believe that we will be living in the same country for an extended period of time. now i just gotta find me a job out there in denton. please keep us in your prayers. hope everyone is doing well. lata

Camp's Over...

now that i have a chance to finally sit down and write something, i suppose i will. im still alive and well in Estonia. i just finished attending camp BALCHYOCA for the 3rd time and had a blast participating once again. again, some great memories were made with old and new friends, and a small part of me didnt want it to end. this year i had a cabin full of the most energetic kids ive ever had. introducing estonians to baseball, America's past time, was definitely cool, as was playing basketball in the cold rain. camp food still sucked. but the fireworks were great as was the late night adventure down the beach during the last night. i have to say though that probably the most unforgettable moment of camp happened at the end, during our olympic games. our "red team's" come from behind triumph in the team log race was simply incredible.

anywho... well the rest of my time in Estonia has been good. anna graduated from college and that was a great event. my buddy luis was here and was able to attend the graduation as well. of course we enjoyed many other small adventures such as a trip to setumaa, narva, and haapsalu. hope everyone around here enjoyed his company. i know i sure loved having a hometown buddy around. now im actually waiting for another friend of mine, this time a friend from denton, to come out. cant wait for that too. ive had a great time getting to know some new americans during camp, as well as sharing good tunes with masha, jamming out with henrick (jimmy), playing volleyball with the banks' and kohv's and soonik's, and ave. of course celebrating 2 years with anna . i look forward to another great month of fun.

i will have more to say and more pictures to post soon.

Back in Estonia

ok so im not really watching the history of the champions league, but today is the day of the big game between AC Milan and liverpool for the european championship. ive had to wait almost a month for this game and now that its here the excitement is just killing me. of course i will be all decked out for the match. got my jersey, scarf, cap, and everything else you can imagine.

as most of you know, im already here in estonia. i arrived last wednesday and have been having a good but crazy time. i had to endure a few days of boredom cause anna was busy studying for her exams. and i dont know why since we all know shes so smart. anywho, it wasnt that bad but we did have to say goodbye to our dear friend nicole who works for the austrian embassy. shell be transfering to the embassy in beijing. that was tought, but on the bright side if we ever need to visit china we have a contact (not that i really have a desire to, but whateva). im looking forward to going to riga in a few days. always love me a new country to see. just adds to the patch collection on my bag pack.

jaime and kari, it was really good to see you guys before i left. and im glad jason could join too. we'll definitely have to get together more often when i get back. i really hope and pray that youll be able to come out to camp. try and get adam to come out too.

stephany i was really disappointed that i didnt get to see ya. so as for pay back im going to let you know that i got to see Loreena Mckennitt in concert in nashville. yup thats right, live and in person. and she was nothing short of amazing! i even got a chance to meet her back stage after the show! she is such a lovely person and took a chance to talk to me for a couple minutes. im going to try and get her to come to Texas and Estonia both ha!

well i hope to see many of you in the upcoming weeks here in tallinn and maybe tartu. till then keep it right, keep it tight! FORZA MILAN!!!

p.s. anna it is soooooooooooo incredible to be here with you once again. besos!

Medical Mission in Guatemala

hey ya'll. sorry i havent written in quite sometime. basically going to guatemala has been the most exciting thing lately.  here is just a little taste of what happened.

A few days ago I returned from my trip to Guatemala where I was working as part of a medical mission team. My main job on the team was to act as a Spanish to English translator between the doctors and the patients. This was not the first time I'd done this, as I'd been to Mexico the previous 2 years doing the same, but it was the first time that I was exposed to a tri-lingual consultation. You see in certain parts of Guatemala, certain Mayan dialects are spoken, and in the region of Patzún their dialect is called Kaqchikel. Therefore part of the week was spent trying to either learn certain words/ phrases in Kaqchikel or having to work with Kaqchikel to Spanish translator. Our team was pretty amazing to say the least. Everyone seemed to get along great and we were all willing to play our parts, whether it be with the toys, triage, the pharmacy, or translating. The sisters and the other workers at the convent were also a great blessing to our stay in such a foreign land.
It was pretty great to see my friends Jose and Angie that first afternoon that I arrived. Jose showed me around the city in a nice drive to grab something to eat and then to pick up Angie. They then took me to a spot where there was a really nice view of the city and finally dropped me off at the hotel. Pretty sure there was tons of security around for this bank conference and it was kinda neat staying in the same hotel that Bush had stayed in a few days before. That evening the whole team finally met as one and we ended it off by dancing the night away at a bar down the st. (the young folks did).
Throughout the week I found it difficult not to want to stare at the worn out faces of some of the people whom I was fortunate to meet. I wanted to know all about the stories and history that they held inside of them. Of course the children were always full of curiosity, smiles, and laughter that brought about the funniest questions and a passion to play any game that was offered. I savored riding in the back of a truck wearing a bandana and tight sunglasses to protect me from kicked up dust and all the while staring in awe at the mountains surrounding us and the lake and volcanoes that could be seen from certain view points. How can I forget random events such as learning how to tell someone to breathe hard in Kaqchikel, or playing 2 on 2 against a Dr. and his daughter (yes we tried to take out the doc.), drinking 5 Gallos one night in a convent while looking at the stars, or even befriending a stray dog?! I even got a kick out of making funnies to our 2 Methodist friends (settle down Molly they were all in good humor).

In the end I sat back and watched how people had grown from all different aspects. The doc's learned a little more Spanish and even some Kaqchikel (Tim was pretty much doing his own consultations by the end), we'd all learned to wait for Dr. John's perfect moments to speak, and so on. I'm eternally grateful to the people who made this trip possible, from the folks in Denton, to those who supported me in every way, to the team, to the people of Guatemala, the convent, and the smiling and whistling faces we met along the way.

I hope that everyone has been doing well, especially ya'll Banks' folks. How is Texas treating you?

A Christmas Story

geez its been a long time since i updated this thing. guess i kinda let that special estonian gal do that for me on her site heehee. yeah some pretty big things happened throughout my Christmas holidays and the new year. of course i finished up my time in halifax. the time up there was simply amazing, just meeting new people, seeing new places, and doing exciting things. the experience i gained at the nova scotia rehab center will definitely help me in the future and the friends and memories i made there are timeless. even the trip back was pretty wild. my uncle joined me on the 3rd of dec. and the next day we headed out and low and behold coming out of the province and going into new brunswick we hit a wild snow storm. so he we were driving at like 30 miles an hr trailing these huge 18 wheelers who would break the icy road in front of us, all the while my car would fish tail every now and then. thankfully we finally made it into fredericton for the night. you know didnt wanna hit any moose along the way into maine. the journey ended up taking us from maine to new hampshire, massachusets, conneticut, new york, new jeresy, pennsylvania, west virginia, kentucky, tennessee, arkansas, and finally back to my home country of Texas.

then it was finally time to graduate and signal the end of my school life (for now at least ha) and the end of all of my fun. ok maybe not both but still my days as your ordinary student are over. i was getting used to that life as a professional student. but graduation was good. took some nice pics with friends and family. but of course the greatest graduation and Christmas gift was having my Anna here to visit. Her visit here was incredible. it was funny to see her be really nervous to meet my familia. me did everything we could to think of ways to make fun of her and make her nervous haha. but shes great like that, being able to play along. of course i took her all over san antonio and denton, to all of my local hangouts, and never got a chance to rest at home haha. and holy cow did she meet tons of family (not even the whole clan) and friends (adam and alana even made it for new years down here!). i wont flood ya with details and all cause i could write small novel about her time here, but if you wanna know more just ask.

im here at home now just wasting time, which freakin rocks my socks off. its been a while since i had absolutely nothing to do. im just waiting for that right position to come around for me to apply to and making up lost time with old friends here in san antone.

p.s. Anna finally got to see the greatest Christmas movie of all time (Clint, i think you and i can agree on this)....A Christmas Story!

I got a nice little graduation gift                                        The Three Amigos
(anyone else...? ha!)

Anna wants to be mexican                                    My dad was jealous cause Anna got more gifts than him

Angelina, my sis., space age game playing               The best looking couple on new years (anna you look goood)

anna and steph... i had the whole crew come out
